A DRUNKEN motorist who led police on a 100mph chase round Redditch has been jailed for 18 months at Worcester Crown Court.
Mark Walton refused to give a breath specimen when he finally stopped but admitted later that he was drunk, said Nicolas Cartwright, prosecuting counsel.
Walton, aged 34, of Ibstock close, Redditch, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to give a breath specimen and driving without a licence and insurance. He was disqualified from driving for three years.
Mr Cartwright said a mobile patrol was alerted after Walton was seen to stagger into the car in Unicorn Hill, Redditch, on February 3. During the chase, Walton twice went through traffic lights on red.
He had numerous previous convictions, including a sentence of five years jail in 2000 for drug dealing.
Michael Aspinall, defending, said Walton, a tarmac worker, knew he had an alcohol problem and had kept out of public houses since the incident. He and his partner had two children and she was expecting another in December
