RAGLEY Hall's Great Hall forms the backdrop for Alcester Singers' Summertime Concert, tomorrow at 7.30pm.
The popular 60-strong choir has been performing for 25 years and this year's event offers "a collection of lively songs for a summer evening," together with a contribution from accomplished pianist Benjamin Nash, the 2005 winner of the Alcester Singers Young Musician of the Year competition.
Highlights include traditional song The Mermaid: a ballad of the sea, arranged by John Whitworth and The Ascot Gavotte, a piece from Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady.
The concert also features a tribute to the forthcoming 200th anniversary of the victory at Trafalgar with a selection of music from Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore.
Interestingly, choir member Angela Morley has a possible link to one of Lord Nelson's sea captains through her mother, the Cornish-based Pellew family
. Contemporary of Nelson, Lord Exmouth, was a Pellew and his younger brother certainly fought alongside the great man. However, the link is not yet proven.
Tickets for the concert, to include supper in the Rose Garden during the interval, are priced £10.
