ON May 20 I reported that there were two bolts missing from the A-frame of the swings in St Chad's recreation ground in Rubery.

Within the hour someone was sent out and, rather than replace the bolts, the swings were removed, for safety reasons.

Throughout the spring school holiday the swings were still not there.

When I phoned leisure services at the district council and asked to speak to Rob Heard, I was informed that he was helping out with the school holiday activities for the Bromsgrove school children. Excellent.

I left a message and my contact number asking for Rob to call me. He didn't. On June 7, I called him again, this time I left a message on his voicemail. He, again, failed to reply. On June 9 I called again and actually got to speak to Rob Heard, who insisted that Rubery wasn't neglected, but the swings should've been replaced.

One week later, June 17, the swings were finally put back, only were the two bolts replaced? No. Instead the frame was welded, along with another frame that didn't need any attention.

Why did it take four weeks to replace the swings? Is it because it's Rubery?

Why didn't the person who came out initially, repair the problem instead of removing the problem? Because it's Rubery. Why was the frame welded instead of just replacing the bolts? How much money has been wasted?

BDC is not interested in Rubery, aside from collecting council tax.

Don't take my word for it, take a walk through the park, and see for yourself. Read the sign 'This play area is owned and maintained by Bromsgrove District Council' then open a dictionary and look up the definition of maintain.
