JAMES Nash, labourer, Ipsley Street, was summoned for driving a horse and dray furiously at Crabbs Cross, on June 22nd. He pleaded not guilty.
Pc Dutfield, and a woman named Lucy Farr, of Littlewoods, stated that defendant drove the horse and dray at a gallop in the direction of Hunt End. He urged the horse as he turned round the corner.
There were children sitting up on a bank, and had they got up and gone into the road, defendant could not possibly have pulled up.
Defendant denied that he was going at the pace alleged by the witnesses. The rate he travelled was only about four-and-a-half miles an hour.
A fine of 5s and 9s 6d costs was imposed.
