FIVE days of railway bliss would be an apt description of the Group's Isle of Man visit in May. This seventh annual holiday venture in Douglas explored the island's railway and tramway heritage. These included the Victorian horse tram rides along Douglas promenade, electric tram rides on the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey and Ramsey and also the island's 2,000ft summit via the Snaefell Mountain Railway. Other highlights included the steam railway from Douglas to Port Erin, the Groudle Glen steam railway, the new replica Laxey Mines Railway and the miniature Orchid Line at the Curraghs Wildlife Park. Leader David Alison also arranged behind-the-scenes visits to various railway and tramway workshops.
The July 8 meeting will be a River Avon picnic cruise from Evesham. Further details from David Morgan, chairman, on 893408.
