DURING the summer the society has one weekend trip, one full-day trip, one three-quarter day trip and one half-day trip. The half-day trip poses some difficulty for the secretary in finding an interesting place within easy reach that no-one from the society will have visited. However, once again she came up trumps with a visit to the medieval manor house of Lower Brockhampton, near Bromyard. Although only a small house, it is one of the most photogenic places in the Midlands, with a half-timbered house and gatehouse, the remains of a moat full of ducks and lily pads and a ruined chapel in the background.
The house itself is full of interest with portraits of past owners and genuine medieval furniture, most of it indigenous to the house.
The next outing is to Basildon House on Saturday, July 9. Newcomers are welcome to join this very friendly society. Details from 541317.
