VIOLENCE ensued when Michael Lander went to complain to a neighbour about the noise from an angle grinder he was using in his garage, Worcester Crown Court heard.
David Muckian was making parts for the chassis and bodywork of his racing car, said Nicolas Cartwright, prosecuting.
Blows were exchanged and Mr Muckian was bruised and cut in the face and needed hospital treatment.
Lander, 51, of Burlish Crossing, Stourport, who admitted common assault, was given a 12-month conditional discharge. He was also ordered to pay £100 costs and £200 compensation to Mr Muckian.
Gareth Walters, defending, said Lander was a self-employed roofing contractor. He was married with four children and had not been in trouble for 35 years.
Recording a not guilty verdict on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, Judge Michael Mott said that although excessive noise could be anti-social, Lander had not dealt with the situation very well for a man of his maturity.
