GIPSIES have become unwelcome guests after having moved to land off the Cheltenham Road in Broadway.
They arrived at the 52-acre site on Tuesday June 7, and still occupy the location. This is causing a great deal of concern for the landowner, Ray Berrow, who has the site up for sale.
There are six caravans on the site and Mr Berrow, who now lives in Dorset, is worried about the effects that the travellers will have on his land and the local community. He has been told of a number of incidents taking place in and around the farm but the police have not received any complaints from the public. This coupled with the distance he is from the site, makes for a frustrating time.
Ray said: "I am not happy with the whole situation really, they have just moved onto the land as if it's their own. This is obviously affecting my chance of selling the site."
Police visit the site regularly to make checks. They say have found no evidence of any wrongdoing and they have had no complaints.
Police spokesman Richard Bull said: "On our regular visits to the site we have found nothing to warrant any sort of action on our part. We will continue to check the site.
"It is up to the landowner to deal with the situation himself as they are settled on private land. If he wants to remove the travellers then a court order must be attained through the proper authorities. At present we have no authority and no reason to move them on."
