Production of a Parish Plan for Broadway is now a step closer as the results of a recent questionnaire are revealed.

A total of 710 Broadway residents completed the questionnaire, which is 35 per cent of the population of the village.

Their hot topics included the local community, the environment and appearance of the village along with leisure services, parking and local shopping facilities.

The results from this questionnaire will go towards the production of a Parish Plan for Broadway, which will set out how the community wants to see the village develop in the future.

Ian Harper, co-ordinator of the group of residents who have voluntarily taken on this task, said: "The publication of the Parish Plan is not an end in itself, but the beginning: an opportunity for the community to help local government shape the village by letting them know the needs and views of the people of Broadway."

The group is organising an open day at the Lifford Hall on Saturday, July 9 from noon to 4pm where residents can find out more about this project. Many of the clubs and societies in Broadway will also be at the event, giving a flavour of the full range of activities on offer in the village.

Village schools have "had their say" too. Both primary schools and the playgroups have produced artwork showing what they want to see in their village and this will be on show during the day.

Mary McGuire, a member of the steering group and Broadway resident, said: "Please get involved by coming along to the event on the July 9 - we will never know what we can achieve as a community unless we try."
