A WYRE Forest man has sold his collection of billiards memorabilia from a match played at the start of the last century.
Peter Piper from Hartlebury received £400 at auction for his rare assortment which included a cased pair of cues used by billiard hall owner and businessman Thomas Watkins in a match against one of the sport's legends, John Roberts Junior.
A watercolour depicting the 1905 match was among the other items, along with cuttings from Billiard Monthly about the encounter.
John Roberts Junior was crowned world champion on eight occasions and is said to have been "what W G Grace was to cricket" during the time.
Mr Piper, who decided to sell the collection because of a lack of space, now hopes that the buyer "can get enjoyment" from the items.
