YOUNGSTERS put down the books and spent the day clowning around during a circus skills workshop.

The Grimley and Holt Primary School pupils tried their hand at tightrope walking, riding a unicycle, and go-karting during Wednesday's event, designed to help improve their balance and co-ordination.

Headteacher Sheila Crawford said: "The children said it was wonderful and they thoroughly enjoyed it."

The event was one of several fun days organised at the school - on the next one the four to 11-year-olds will be learning Bollywood dancing.
