A NEW lager from Malvern Hills Brewery just missed out on the top prize at Herefordshire's first ever beer festival.
Pressnitz Plzen, brewed using Slovenian and German hop varieties, came second in the Champion Beer competition at the Beer-on-the-Wye festival last weekend.
Julian Hawthornthwaite, of the brewery, said: "We had a very good response from everyone at the festival and we're pleased with how the beer has been approved by the general public.
"For a brew making its debut in a competition such as this, it has been a complete success."
The beer narrowly conceded first place to Davy Jones Knocker from Skinner's, an established small Cornish brewery. Malvern Hills Brewery now plans to enter Pressnitz Plzen into many different competitions nationwide.
