ANOTHER action-packed schedule is expected at this weekend's meeting of the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb.

Historic racing cars will compete on the famous track tomorrow and Sunday as the event gears up towards its centenary.

Tomorrow sees the Midland Speed and Invited Championships for road cars as well as some racing cars.

Racing in that competition will be Sue Young from Hereford in her four-litre Gould that she shares with husband Deryk. Sue Young is currently the fastest female on the track, having set a time of 26.97 seconds.

Sunday's meeting is in conjunction with the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC), predominantly pre-war cars that shaped the 100-year history at Shelsley.

Among those on show will be Mac Hulbert's ERA R4D that held the outright course record, now down to 23.87 seconds, on many occasions in the hands of Raymond Mays and Ken Wharton between 1934 and 1956.

Hulbert, from Gloucestershire, holds the course record for pre-war cars after setting a time of 33.71 seconds last year.

The one-day events are the fifth meetings to be held at Shelsley Walsh since May and are part of the 100-year anniversary celebrations.

Racing first started at the venue in 1905, and a member's day with parade runs up the famous hill climb will take place on Friday, August 12.

But the main meeting marking the hill climb's milestone takes place a week later from August 19 to 21.

That event sees a bumper entry of historic cars, including a pre-war Auto Union demonstration run as well as current European Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx driving a BMW.

Priaulx cut his teeth in racing at Shelsley after being crowned British Hillclimb champion in 1995.

Practice for tomorrow's and Sunday's events is at 9.30am with racing from 2pm.

Entry to all areas tomorrow is £10 and £15 on Sunday.
