DID you, or a relative, take part in the Dambusters Raid? Or perhaps an ancestor fought with the Worcestershire Regiment at Gheluvelt? If so, the War Research Society may be of interest to you.
From Wednesday to Sunday (July 27-31) our society is travelling to the Mohne and Eder dams, breached by the famous bouncing bombs of Guy Gibson's 617 Squadron.
On the way, we will be visiting Colditz Castle and the site of the notorious Buchenwald concentration camp.
A number of other fascinating trips are also being undertaken this year, including visits to Hanover, Soltau and Celle military cemeteries.
Included in the itinerary will be Rheindahlen and Belsen, where thousands of people perished during the Second World War.
In August (5-9), we are travelling to the First World War killing grounds of Verdun and the Somme. However, of particular interest to Worcestershire people will be our final trip of the year to participate in the Armistice Day service held at the Menin Gate in Ypres.
There will be the opportunity to drive along the Messines Ridge, down the legendary Menin Road and see the rebuilt village of Gheluvelt, scene of the Worcestershire Regiment's glorious charge on Saturday, October 31, 1914.
The society makes every effort to cater for individual requests, such as visiting the grave of a loved one. For further details on these visits, please contact me at the address below.
