I WOULD like to express my appreciation to Max Sinclair for sending in that splendid photograph of the wonderful Holt Castle and to your newspaper for printing the photograph, (Letters, Saturday, June 25). How beautiful she was - I shall keep the photograph for the rest of my days.
The breaking up of this Severn steamer in 1936, at Pembroke Dock, was an act of gross vandalism. Although obviously on a much smaller scale, the destruction of Holt Castle reminded me of the sending to the breakers' yard of the mighty cruise ship Canberra, which was another act of appalling vandalism.
Canberra was the people's ship and Holt Castle was the Worcester people's steamer. Both should have been preserved for posterity.
D E MARGRETT,
Worcester.
