A PRIMARY school facing closure has cancelled its summer fair to concentrate all its efforts on battling to keep its doors open.

Malvern Hills Primary, in Bluebell Close, was due to hold its fete on Friday, July 8, but has shelved the event to prepare for a showdown with the county council on Tuesday, July 12.

The move was agreed at a parent-teacher association meeting on Wednesday, as were plans to print 'Save our School' banners and T-shirts.

"We decided we wanted to concentrate fully on the meeting with the LEA. Our mind would not have been on the fair anyway," said parent Dawn Bradshaw, who has two children at the school.

"We have a petition and it's all down to the parents now. Residents are also up in arms about it. Who knows what the school could end up as?"

At the meeting, county education chiefs will talk to teachers, governors and parents about the future of the school, formerly Poolbrook Primary.

Following a critical Ofsted report, the county council is considering four options - closure, a fresh start, a rejuvenating action plan and forging close links with a more successful school.

However, the council has highlighted problems with all three, other than closure.

Parents are also due to meet MP Sir Michael Spicer on Saturday, July 9.
