A TELEGRAM from the Queen and a party with family and friends will mark a special day for Irene Layton, who is 100 years old today.
Irene, of Norton Hall Nursing Home, Worcester, was spending the day with her 12 grandchildren, aged between five and 52. Daughter's Noreen Griffith, aged 57, and 74-year-old Jean Sandbrook were also due to be there with their husbands.
Jean said: "It's just thrilling that she's lived to this age. She's always been there for us."
Irene was born in the Arboretum area of Worcester, working at the former Globe Hotel, in Friar Street, which was owned by her parents.
She was a fantastic cook, with scones being her speciality.
Care manager Sally Carter said: "Irene's a joy to care for and has got a lovely smile.
"She's very good for her age."
