THE Register Office in Worcester is to move premises after recording the births of 75,000 babies and 5,000 marriages.
Worcester County Council's Registration Service has been at its Foregate Street premises for the last 25 years.
The service will be moving to newly refurbished premises at County Hall in Spetchley Road. Improved accessibility and facilities have been developed. The last wedding will take place at Foregate Street on Saturday, July 30, and the new premises open for business the following Monday at 8.30am.
A fire devastated part of the Georgian listed building in 1996 and temporary accommodation was found while renovation work took place.
However the fire did not affect the marriage room and normal service continued throughout the reconstruction.
