A POP Idol style competition organised by a city centre nightspot held the first round of elimination last night .
Jo Perkins, assistant manager of RSVP, said following the success of last year's contest they hoped this one would be bigger and better.
Gemma McCarthy, who sang Eddie Floyd's Knock on Wood and Madonna's Papa Don't Preach, was the unlucky singer to be voted out of the competition.
The winner was Todd Reeves, who sang Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh and Tired of Being Alone by Al Greene.
Jo said: "It was a really, really good night. The atmosphere was amazing."
The competition involves entrants being split into two groups. Each group takes turns to perform in a series of heats. The overall winner will collect the star prize of £1,000.
