RESIDENTS have formed an action group to oppose a plan for a business park near to their homes.

The creation of Keep Grove Farm Green follows a report in the Worcester News just over a week ago that the city council had received letters for and against the proposal for the 27-acre Grove Farm, in St John's, Worcester.

People fear offices and light industrial units - which could create around 1,000 jobs - would affect the whole of the west side of the city for the worse.

Group spokesman John Isherwood said that the majority of people who would work at the business park would drive resulting in major traffic congestion for St John's as the roads are inadequate to deal with extra volume.

Other concerns include the risk posed to children as they walk to school from the increased number of cars coming into the area. Another worry was that the business park workers would park in the streets as the site would not have enough spaces.

The group was formed following a meeting on Monday at the park off Meadowbank Drive, which is right next to the site.

Mr Isherwood, of Westlea Close, said: "During the meeting 139 objection letters were put forward to pass on to the planing department.

"The plan just has not been thought through."

Mr Isherwood also called on other residents from the immediate area to voice their opposition.

He said: "We would remind any other people who have a letter to get it to the planning department before the deadline date of Friday, July 8.

"It's where we live, don't let them ruin it, with bad planning decisions."
