AS one who was born on August 15, 1945 I am slightly miffed that we are not commemorating the end of the World War Two on August 15, which has always been VJ day.
We are eternally grateful to the brave men and women who gave their lives that we might live in freedom. But remember the war didn't end on July 10. The nation's biggest 'Thank You' is being held on that day.
Very, very sadly it took two atom bombs on Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9) to force Japan to surrender, on board on American Naval vessel on August 15, 1945.
We all salute and thank all those past and present who fought in the Far East and give them our eternal gratitude that we inherit the freedom that they fought for 60 years ago.
