BARNT Green Spartak manager GJ Singh admitted he was flattered that former Birmingham City and Walsall midfielder Martin O'Connor considered joining the club as player/coach.
Singh and director Tony Allen approached O'Connor three weeks ago about taking up a coaching role at the club.
O'Connor eventually chose to move to Nationwide Conference side Kidderminster Harriers as coach at the end of last week.
However, Singh told the Advertiser/Messenger that O'Connor had seriously thought about joining the Midland Combination Premier Division club.
He said: "We spoke to him three weeks ago but I think Tony and I really impressed him.
"He phoned up to tell us were on his shortlist, but eventually the pull of a club like Kidderminster was too much.
"It says how far we've come that we can turn someone like Martin O'Connor's head."
Singh has dropped his interest in Oldbury United winger Sean Williams after he stood the manager up at a meeting.
He said: "Sean is always saying one thing and doing another and if he can't make a meeting then we're not interested."
Spartak will take on Coleshill Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase at home. In the Endsleigh Challenge Cup Spartak entertain Leamington Hibernian.
The friendly away at Fairfield Villa on July 30 has been cancelled.
