IT is so sad to see another attack on the poor road planners. It's not their fault - they do their best. True, the latest 'safety' markings at Slideslow roundabout, Bromsgrove, make it more dangerous than it was before. Do what I do, and avoid the area

When Lydiate roundabout was first opened, I tried it twice, and never went there again. I have been driving - without an accident - for only 44 years, so I haven't the necessary experience to tackle that place!

The traffic lights at New Road, with the exciting filter, is wonderful for increasing your adrenaline level. I have done two mini-surveys relating to these lights. Every time that I used the junction, I made a note if anyone had gone when they shouldn't have moved. The first survey showed that in 85 per cent of my attendance's at the lights, someone moved at the wrong green light. The second survey came up with 82 per cent moving at the wrong time. Now, I close my eyes and hope. Dicey? Well, it's not the road planners' fault.

Other ludicrous road markings have already been pointed out by your readers, but they do not appreciate the reason for the daft junction in the area.

You see, many years ago, when the main road from Birmingham through Bromsgrove was first made, the road planners had to come up with a number for it, the A-something. So, they decided to calculate the average IQ of their department, and call the road that, hence the title A38. Years later it was discovered that a mistake had been made, and that the road should have been called the A11. Now you know. They do their best.

I am collecting for the Road Planners' Department Holiday Fund, so that they can go on holiday for a year or two, to somewhere hot and exciting, like Iraq. They could even pick up some new ideas from our cousins over there. Please give what you can.
