Birmingham Premier League
BRANDON Miller's excellent innings helped steer Studley to victory in their Division Two match at Bridgnorth on Saturday.
But any hopes of hauling in the leaders on the back of the win were dashed when they actually dropped a place in the table!
"We shouldn't be surprised as we went from top to sixth in one week not so long ago," skipper Richard Gregory admitted following his side's three-wicket win.
"It just shows how tight the league is - one win and we could go back to the top of the table.
"One good thing on Saturday is that other results went our way so we are still in touch with the clubs around us."
And Gregory admits it is impossible to call which club will be top of the pile come the end of the season.
The Washford Fields side have played everyone with the exception of this week's visitors, Fordhouses, as the league season approaches the halfway point.
"I just don't know who is going to win the league," Gregory added. "The only teams to have totally outplayed us have been Penn and Tamworth but then they have been beaten."
The Studley captain hopes to have opener Simon Stamenkovich back in contention for the visit of Fordhouses and his return could be perfect timing.
"I'm not available this weekend so it will be good to have Simon back in the side," Gregory explained.
"He has missed four or five weeks with a broken finger. It is good to have someone in the side who can bat through the innings."
Stamenkovich may open the batting on his return but it will be a few more weeks before he resumes his wicket-keeping duties.
Against Bridgnorth, Miller's impressive 89 was the backbone of the Studley innings.
Gregory added a useful 31 before being run out but it was Miller who received the skipper's praise.
"His innings was the key to our win," Gregory added.
"We lost a few wickets late on, which was a bit nerve-racking, but we are lucky that we have a side that can bat all the way down to number 11."
