n AS a local resident living near to the canal, I am in the habit of enjoying a walk down it to the River Severn.
Recently, British Waterways has moved some narrow boats from the basin onto the canal and have erected a metal fence with locked gates just above the Anchor pub and just below the Commandery.
I understand that this is to ensure the security of those boats, but wonder why the gates cannot be unlocked during daylight hours.
Many people are turning back from their walks or cycle rides, frustrated and annoyed. Considering that the towpaths seem to be maintained by the city council, the money must have come from our taxes.
It is ironic that the river path by the Diglis Hotel, which was closed for about a year for repairs, has now collapsed in the same place as before.
