BROMSGROVE war veterans are angry and disappointed by the lack of interest shown for VE and VJ Day remembrance celebrations in the town.
Members of the Bromsgrove branch of the Burma Star believe the countrywide joint occasion to commemorate both victory over Japan and victory in Europe is being overlooked.
Group president, 83-year-old Jack Nicholls, said: "Nothing big is happening in Bromsgrove and that is disrespectful to soldiers and friends who died in their thousands for this country.
"We are only a small group now and it is difficult for us to organise anything. I thought it was a big occasion that others would want to remember."
Despite big events in nearby towns and cities Bromsgrove will only feature small events, including a veteran's tea party at the Royal British Legion, in Birmingham Road, on Saturday, July 16.
Mr Nicholls added: "This year will mark 60 years after the war, most of us won't be here for 70. I am angry, sad and disappointed."
He said that people needed to remember but didn't seem interested anymore.
Fred Pearson, from the Bromsgrove branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "I agree that not enough is happening in Bromsgrove to mark the day but it is very difficult for all the groups to get together and organise something.
"It shouldn't always be up to the groups, it would be nice if other people took an interest as well."
A spokesman from Bromsgrove District Council said: "The council would support any event for VE and VJ Day but we have not been approached by any groups."
