STUDENTS from a Bromsgrove school will be aiming to give something back to the community in a special project next week.

The Community Enterprise Project on Monday, July 11, is part of a programme to bring North Bromsgrove High School and local people closer together. It will involve around 25 year 10 and 11 students from the art, music and business studies departments.

The 14-16 year-olds will be putting on two musical performances ranging from jazz to classical at the nearby Blakemore Care Home and a total of 14 pieces of artwork will go on permanent display. There will also be a workshop on finance by Lloyds TSB as students learn how to cost a small enterprise.

"I am very pleased that we are involved in this project and know that it will be enormously valuable to our students," said headteacher Nick Browne. "It will continue to build links between our school and the community."

The aim is to give the students new opportunities to make use of their skills.

Head of business studies Mr Raz Askari said it was the first time the school had organised an event of its kind but they hope it could become an annual event.

"It's a way of developing social ties with the community, with people living next door or on the same street," he said. "In this case, it's the elderly who live in a home that the students walk past going to and from school every day. The students are very enthusiastic."
