YOUNG swimmers from the Evesham club were on song as they took on Wolverhampton, Oaken-gates, Droitwich Dolphins and Phoenix Youth at Worcester knowing that a top three finish should see them through to September's Nuneaton and District Final.

On the back of two top spots in the previous rounds, a slightly depleted squad rose to the occasion, finishing a close second to a powerful Wolverhamp-ton team.

The superb team effort was marked by some strong relay performances and a number of excellent individual swims.

These included Mark Molineux in the boys' ten-year 50m freestyle, Kyle Annis in the boys' nine-year 25m butter fly and Kim Swindlehurst and Harry Ackland in their respective nine-year 25m breaststroke and freestyle events.

There were great team swims in the 50m freestyle relays from both the boys and girls under-11 teams as Abi Pallett, Becky Summerfield, Grace Loo-mes and Amy Camp's superb second place, was eclipsed when James Bar-tram, David Jubb, Toby Edmondson and Will Rus-sell touched first in their race.

Molineux, Alex Russell, Lewis Bennett and Ack-land then stormed home in the ten-year medley relay before Bennett, Russell, Molineux and Matthew Fowler repeated this success in their freestyle relay.

Success for the boys' mixed age relay team of Ackland, Nathan Pallett, Bennett, Molineux, Bart-ram, David Jubb, Andrew Powell and Joe Evans, followed by individual wins from Loren Brodie and Bennett in their respective ten-year butter fly races, left Evesham with a chance of getting the league position they requ-ired.

This was followed by second places for Abi Pallett in the 11-year 50m freestyle and Annis nine-year 25m backstroke, setting up the team to race home in the mixed eight freestyle cannon and secure second place.

The club is looking to obtain a kit sponsor for the Nuneaton finals, telephone Sally Powell on 01386 871694 if you can help.
