THE Kidderminster branch met at 5am on May 22 for the annual dawn chorus walk on Kinver Edge, led by member and National Trust Warden of the Edge. It was a bright and pleasant morning and birds identified included yellowhammer, wood warbler and swifts.
At the conclusion of the walk the Warden's wife served up her annual treat of coffee and hot dogs.
During the first weekend of June the annual Birdwatchers Summer Fair took place at the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust's Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve. One of the highlights of the weekend was the launch of the West Midland Bird Club book entitled 'The New Birds of the West Midlands'.
Its authors, Graham and Janet Harrison, had dedicated many thousands of hours to the book, which contains just over 500 pages of explicit details and information on the region's wildlife, with drawings by artist Steve Cale and colour photographs by professional wildlife photographers.
The publication, ISBN 0-9507881-2-0, priced at £38 post free, is available by writing to WMBC, PO Box 1, Studley, Warwickshire B80 7JG or by calling 01562 67748 or emailing www.westmidlandbirdclub.com
The first indoor meeting of the 2005/06 season will be held on September 28 at 7.30pm at St Oswald's Church Centre, Broadwaters, when Tony Wharton will give an illustrated talk entitled 'Faces of Nature'.
Anyone interested in wildlife, birdlife and conservation in general is welcome to join both indoor and outdoor meetings. Details from 01562 67748.
