INKBERROW & District Horticultural Society's Rose Show was held on June 11 at Inkberrow Village Hall.
In his welcome the chairman, Tom Hodgkinson, extended the society's congratulations to John Tombs, a founder member of the society and one time chairman who had also judged the Spring Show over a number of years, who was celebrating his 90th birthday the following day.
He commented that the committee had perhaps not made their most prescient decision by bringing the date of the show forward one week as, instead of roses being past the best as formerly, this year saw exhibitors struggle to find any beyond the bud stage.
Nevertheless the judge, Dennis Pugh, found the overall standard of the exhibits high and had made particular comment of the very high standard in both the indoor plant and perennial classes. He also praised the standard of presentation in the rose classes, which was much improved on last year.
Results: Highest number of points in show; 1st Fred Hunt, joint 2nd Gaby Allison and Col Shaw, 3rd Pam Welsh. Mary Hewlett Challenge Cup for most points in the rose section; 1st Fred Hunt, 2nd Gaby Allison, 3rd John Tromans.
