Thinking about autumn clothes when it's still the summer always seems rather a shame - but after looking at some of the forthcoming styles from Betty Barclay, you might find yourself wishing that autumn would hurry up and arrive...
Many of the elements from this summer - and even from last winter - are still in evidence, but updated with darker, more subdued colourways and new embellishments. No prizes for predicting that the bohemian or folkloric look continues to influence fashion, with flowing skirts in crinkle chiffon or printed corduroy, and patches and ruffles replacing sequins and beads.
In combination with a fitted polo neck sweater or a smart belted jacket, these long skirts add a feminine touch as well as being especially flattering. The grouping of light and heavy fabrics can be seen throughout the collection, as well as an eye-catching blend of different materials such as antique leather, denim and metallics.
Military influences can still be seen, with the distinctive stand-up collars and buttons now translating into cardigans as well as jackets and blazers.
Again, these can be worn with long skirts or with fitted drainpipe or breeches-style trousers in herringbone or tweed fabrics. Meanwhile, the popular 'city shorts' that were such a hit over the summer have been updated for autumn-winter, and can now be teamed with romantic blouses or draping, oversized knits.
The autumn colour palette sees a return to basic black, and the trend for combining it with dark shades of blue continues alongside the addition of white and petrol.
Grey is also important, in knitwear as well as printed fabrics, while some traditional autumnal shades and berry tones also creep in.
