Philip and Linda have grown so attached to their 'Oaklands Court' development that they are considering moving into the penthouse of the refurbished historic building on this exclusive development. From there they will be able to look out over the rooftops of the historic city and take in the views of the neighbouring Malvern Hills in the distance.
The family's association with the property, known as 'Malvern House', spans the past 13 years and their love of the building has ensured that the development has been sympathetic throughout this distinct collection of apartments and townhouses and the original house itself.
A team of craftsmen have been used to refurbish the majestic Edwardian mansion, whilst the newly-built apartments and townhouses share the impressive grounds at one of Worcester's most sought-after addresses - Battenhall Road.
Philip and Linda both agreed that they wanted to achieve "something special" with the building to create a totally unique development which potential purchasers would be proud to own and be a part of due to the total individuality; at the same time securing a very viable investment prospect. They also thought it was very important to do it justice, and vital to keep as many as possible of the original features that were characteristic of the house's original status.
The couple worked with the Allied Irish Bank based in Birmingham city centre and the scheme was designed by Redditch-based BBLB Architects, who also design for some of the larger development companies. The scheme was managed and overseen by EC Harris Quantity Surveyors, who have offices throughout the country. But it has been the work of Lichfield-based builders Linfords that has particularly impressed the couple.
"Linfords won the tender due to the fact that we were impressed with how they had restored and refurbished other historic buildings, including Windsor Castle following the fire," they commented. "They have not disappointed us and have done an exceptional job at 'Oaklands Court', including the attention to detail and quality and a high standard of workmanship in the development of the new-build units."
The project has taken two years from design and planning to achieve this multi-million pound scheme, but Philip and Linda's detailed approach to the work means it has been money well spent.
Original polished wood abounds in the refurbished 'Malvern House', whilst there are fully-equipped Hatt kitchens throughout the development.
In all, there are 17 one- and two-bedroom apartments on the site and four townhouses. The eight apartments in 'Malvern House' spread over one, two or three levels and each home has the benefit of a spacious store in the basement.
The newly-built 'Hanbury House' boasts a further nine apartments - with open-plan kitchens, stylish en-suites and some with 'Juliet' balconies - whilst the four three-bedroom townhouses have their own private entrances and gardens. All the properties have the benefit of private parking or garaging and mature landscaped grounds. And with prices starting from just £149,950, it seems a small price to pay for luxury living with such wonderful Worcestershire views.
