THE finishing touches have been put to an unusual new community art project in Kidderminster.
Wyre Forest District Council has teamed up with St George's First School in the town and local artist, Kate Wrigglesworth, to reveal a new solid oak storytelling chair in the town's Baxter Gardens.
The joint effort enabled the project to come to fruition last Friday morning.
Mrs Wrigglesworth worked with families linked with the school, St George's Church and the Bangladeshi community to come up with the idea of a story chair, decorated with symbols and images that depict nature and cultural harmony.
Wood carver, Amanda Evans, also lent a helping hand.
Workshops were held twice weekly in St George's School hall throughout the winter and spring to design the chair.
The council's art development officer, Loz Samuels, said: "The idea was to create a functional piece of artwork for Baxter Gardens.
"We wanted to involve as many people as possible, who live around the gardens, so that the end result reflected this diverse community and celebrates the different cultural backgrounds.
"A story chair is the perfect solution and we are absolutely delighted with the result."
