IT will be a case of "lights, camera, reduction" when the theatrical family of a nationally acclaimed actor welcomes him home to perform in Worcester.

Ruben Crow is one of three actors set to perform in The Reduced Shakespeare Company's Completely Hollywood (Abridged) - a send-up of the movie industry that presents hilariously shortened versions of Hollywood classics.

Swan Theatre Amateur Company actors dad Tim Crow and sister Lizzy can't wait to see the 27-year-old when he performs next week.

Tim, of Thorneloe Road, Barbourne, Worcester, said his whole family had a passion for theatre and were extremely proud of Ruben.

He said: "Six of my seven children have been involved in theatre at some point. My enthusiasm must have passed on.

"I was pleased when Ruben turned professional and he is doing really well. I have seen this production before but we are all looking forward to seeing him again."

He has always encouraged his family to tread the boards and they have all been behind Ruben since he turned professional.

He added: "I support Ruben as much as possible, although I didn't actively encourage that path for him as it is a very hard and unpredictable business."

The former Royal Grammar School pupil has performed in amateur productions in the city and with his dad and sisters when he was 13, but this will be the first time he has performed professionally in Worcester.

He said: "I've always thought it would be great to end up on the stage in Worcester on tour and here I am. It's great to perform in front of family and friends as well as having the luxury of staying at home for a while!

"I'm very much looking forward to performing at the Swan Theatre and seeing a few familiar faces in the audience."

Completely Hollywood (Abridged) aims to shake up showbiz in an epic edit of movie masterpieces by giving Hollywood what is billed as "more than just a nip and tuck".

It will pull audiences through a high-speed romp of some of the most famous films in history and promises to have audiences in stitches.

It is the latest work by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor who have also shortened Shakespeare, abbreviated American history, comically condensed the Bible and merrily mutilated the Millennium since they launched the company in America in 1981.

Their latest production runs at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday, March 28, to Saturday, April 1, with matinees on Thursday and Saturday. Shows kick off at 7.30pm.
