Churches in Tarrington and Bromyard will host performances of a touring production backed by the Diocese of Hereford.
Worcestershire-based playwright Peter Roberts has created Heart and Stone, a contemporary story following the lives of four people rehearsing a community play.
The plot chronicles the history and daily life experienced within a West Midlands church.
The partnership tour with New Theatre Works aims to bring theatre back to its medieval birthplace, says NTW founder Ellie Parker.
The 13-church tour opens at All Saints, Hereford, tonight (Friday) and includes St Philip and St James', Tarrington, on Wednesday (March 29) and St Peter's, Bromyard, the following night.
Performances are at 7.30pm and tickets are £6 from 0870 1122330 or, for Bromyard, from Food for All, High Street. For more details, see www.newtheatreworks.co.uk.
