THERE were celebrations all round at Pershore College when Jonathan Tame, a second year student at the college, won the regional heat of the Young Horticulturist of the Year competition.
This is the third successive year that a Pershore student has represented the West Midlands and South Wales region.
The competition, which attracts more than 1,000 young people each year, is organised by the Institute of Horticulture for people involved in horticulture under 30 years of age.
Jonathan, who will now go forward to the national final at the Royal Edinburgh Botanical Gardens on May 6, said: "It's been a tough competition and I'm happy to have got this far. The horticultural training at Pershore is second to none and I'm now looking forward to representing the college at the national final."
This is proving to be a great year for Jonathan, who is studying for a Higher National Diploma, specialising in amenity and landscape management. A garden he designed as part of his course was chosen to be built as the college's show garden at the Spring Gardening Show on the Three Counties Showground in May.
