THE riverside in Bewdley will be lit up by a "spectacular" display of illuminated sculptures and fireworks on Saturday.

It promises to be one of the highlights of the Rediscover Bewdley weekend and will take place along the River Severn between 5pm and 7pm.

Pupils from Wribbenhall First, Wribbenhall Middle, St Anne's First and St Anne's Middle schools have designed the artwork and willow sculptures for the event, organised by Opportunity Bewdley.

Before 7pm, a procession of children in costume and performing Dhol drumming and bhangra music will lead spectators from the Civic Space in Severnside South to Severnside North.

Visitors will be able to watch the illumination of the river through reflections from fire drawings and fireworks.

The burning pictures are to represent the burning of the old and the bringing in of the new in recognition of the beginning of spring.

It is also to celebrate a new era in the town, with the completion of the flood defences.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy two pig roasts. The first, organised by Bewdley Rotary Club, will be held in Severnside South from 2pm until 7pm and the second, hosted by the Mug House, along Severnside North between 5pm and 7pm.
