A QUARTET of talented and diverse artists heralds the coming of spring at Herefordshire's Galanthus Gallery.

Allison Neal's intriguing and quirky figurative prints and drawings often tell a story. Her new series of work is based on the Greek myths, and particularly features the figure of Icarus - not the gilded youth who flew too near the sun through pride, but a much older man, disillusioned and battered but still trying to fly. The subject matter may be ancient, but the art that results has an arresting contemporary immediacy to it.

Allison's work is beautifully counterpointed by Nick Samsworth's layered, elemental abstract paintings in oil and gesso, which reflect his concerns for the land, nature and the elements.

Thin layers or veils of paint are built up gradually to give depth and light to the surface, while the addition of varnish gives a slight sheen, so that the pieces have a vigorous, earthy physicality.

Gloucestershire potter Alistair Young's salt-glazed ceramics are an interesting mix of the modern and historical, beautifully thrown and decorated with flair. By contrast, Pierre Williams' thrown stoneware vessels are dramatic and dynamic, often on an impressive scale.

New jewellery for spring includes Katie Clarke's fabulous feather neck pieces, rings and earrings.

The exhibition runs until March 28. Galanthus Gallery & Cafe is open six days a week, including Sundays (closed on Wednesdays).
