THERE cannot be many better ways to get into the festive spirit than taking in the glitz, glamour and unforgettable sounds of the three kings of swing.
Sadly the memory of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr taking to the world famous cabaret bar stage of the Sands Hotel will forever remain just that.
Like the immortal summit meetings that took place in the Nevada playland, while the boys filmed Oceans 11, the production is simply three men performing, enjoying themselves, timeless songs, wisecracks and of course, lots of whiskey.
Louis Hoover, who played the part of Ol' Blue Eyes, grew more and more into the role and after his stirring rendition of My Way, he was eerily believable as the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra.
The most demanding legend to mimic has to be Sammy Davis Jnr. Not only did he have an unmistakable voice but also his energy levels on stage were mesmerising.
Rohan Reckord managed to pull off the role and even kept in strict character by puffing away on countless cigarettes while belting out classics like Mr Bojangles and the brilliant Me and My Shadow.
It was obvious Michael Neilson had filled the boots of Dean Martin before. He was simply stunning. The voice, jokes and mannerisms were all Dino and he quite rightly received the biggest round of applause at the end of the night.
The Cool Yule feeling was in the air as the trio joined together to perform a medley of festive favourites, although not all strictly to the correct lyrics as the Jack Daniels and jokes picked up pace.
Among the seasonal treats were Baby It's Cold Outside, White Christmas, Let it Snow and Winter Wonderland.
A special mention must also go to the Colin Campbell's fabulous orchestra that brought to life the big band sound of the era.
