AN evening of comedy is promised when Les Barker presents Speaking Volumes at Kidderminster's Rose Theatre tomorrow.

Les, who is from Manchester and used to be an accountant before turning to comedy, writes strange poems and songs, as well as books.

His poems have spawned a number of folk heroes, including Jason and the Arguments and Cosmo the Fairly Accurate Knife Thrower.

The show starts at 8pm and is recommended for anyone fancying something a bit different.

It will be followed by resident theatre company, The Nonentities' production of Frozen by Brony Lavery.

The play will run from Monday, February 20 until Saturday, February 25 and starts at 7.30pm.

It tells the story of Agnetha, an American academic, who comes to England to research a thesis titled Serial Killing: A Forgivable Act.

This brings her into contact with Nancy, a mother in a state of frozen hope following the disappearance of her daughter, and Ralph, a loner who is looking for some distraction.

Drawn together by horrific circumstances, they embark upon a long, dark emotional journey.

Frozen was first produced at the Birmingham Rep in 1998 and went on to win the Theatrical Management Association (TMA) Best New Play Award and the Eileen Anderson Central Television Award for Best Play.

Although it contains references to child abuse and strong language, it is said to be a thought-provoking play that ends on an optimistic note.
