"Light, fresh and funky." That's how chef, Josh Ready, describes the menu he has created at Stourport's Bar St Martin.

With its clever use of red and blue, glass and chrome dcor - and with the volume pumped up at night giving it a nightclub come sports bar feel - Bar St Martin has brought a feel of the metropolis to sleepy Stourport.

Josh was recruited some six months ago - having previously worked at Browns in Worcester and the Crown and Sandys in Ombersley - to provide a range of dishes to compliment the bar's modern, urban image.

He has created what he calls a "vibrant, visually exciting" menu - a range of dishes to suit the lunchtime and early evening customers, mainly professional clientele looking to chill out and tuck in after a hard day's work.

These include mouth-watering light meals - paninis, pasta, tortilla wraps, burgers, baguettes and sizzlers, garnished with eye-catching salads.

Although there are established favourites like chicken balti, woodfired pizzas and omelettes on the menu, pride of place goes to Josh's signature dishes where he has opted to pile it high and present the dishes in a different way.

"The ultimate club sandwich experience" is how he is billing his multi-layered three inches high chicken sandwich, laced with bacon, iceberg lettuce, mayonnaise and all the trimmings.

For hungrier appetites, Bar St Martin has opted for a rejuvenated favourite - the burger.

"We sell the best and biggest range of burgers in Stourport," says Josh, whose range includes a whopping 12oz burger stacked six inches high and served with chips.

But the overall emphasis is on quality not quantity. None of Bar St Martin's food is vacuum packed.

The burgers, for instance, are home made and all ingredients are fresh and sourced from local suppliers.

Bar St Martin is also planning to stage regular theme nights soon with three-course Mexican, Italian and Japanese meals and many other cuisines being available for under £15 per head, with staff dressing up to add ambience to the evening.

Bar St Martin serves food between noon and 2.30pm at lunchtimes, and from 5pm until 7pm in the evenings.

The night times belong to the bar's livelier customers.
