TWO of the Victorian age's most important authors will have their work performed by one-man dramatist Ray Sargent at the Norbury Theatre in what is set to be a historical treat.
Sargent will perform works by two of the era's greatest writers, Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy, at the Droitwich theatre, on Friday, February 3.
In the first act Sargent will look at 19th century England's growing industrialism in The Signalman.
Sargent is set to play a wealthy industrialist, who discovers an abandoned signalbox and suffers a ghostly experience.
In the second act he will be perform Hardy's The Three Strangers.
Set in a cottage in a remote rural area the second act follows the disturbance of a family celebration by a stranger.
A dramatic and enigmatic performance, Two Victoria Tales is the perfect winter warmer for those who have a taste for classic literature.
One industrial and one pastoral, the two stories of strange happenings are contrasting yet complementary masterpieces in their own right.
Sargent's treatment of these works harks back to the world of storytellers, who thrilled their audiences by instilling powerful images in the mind.
Using highly atmospheric sounds and music the show harnesses the power of the imagination.
Sargent first performed The Three Strangers in 1990 at the Thomas Hardy Festival to critical acclaim.
Pairing this show with a similar approach to The Signalman has produced an event of unparalleled indulgence for those with a taste for a great story, peerlessly told. If interested call the Norbury Theatre's box office on 01905 770154.
