MUSIC lovers will soon be able to sup a pint while listening to the strains of the acoustic guitar as a Worcester pub throws open its doors to musicians.
The Green Man in Worcester's Tything is due to host the acoustic music nights every Sunday from the end of the month, showcasing a wealth of musical talent from in and around the area.
The driving force behind the initiative is guitarist Andy Hiseman, who is a friend of manager David Gray and was approached to see if he could unearth any acts to play the venue.
It comes after the city pub underwent a major refurbishment last year, re-opening for business last autumn.
Andy is no stranger to the music scene himself as he has played with Upton-upon-Severn-based jazz and blues duo The Barflys for 16 years with guitarist Pat Allen.
The twosome also play rock 'n' roll music with a full band and will be playing a slot as a duo on Sunday, February 5, as part of the acoustic sessions.
But first up will be Bluebird - comprising Malvern-based Stan Terry and Pat of The Barflys - on Sunday, January 29, at 8pm.
Stan is known in the area for his Rod Stewart tribute act but got together with Pat last year as a sideline project and recorded a short album of blues-tinged acoustic tunes.
Andy said: "They're a great act because they show off Pat's guitar skills, while Stan has got an exceptional voice so it'll be a great start to the sessions."
Worcester-based Andy, of Park Avenue, Barbourne, is now on the look-out, both locally and further afield, for other acts to play the venue and is also hoping to put on jazz as well as acoustic guitar acts. He said he thought the sessions - which are free - would add to the vibrant music scene within the city.
He added: "It's a good quality pub and it just seemed a great opportunity to get some musicians in there as there's no live music down that end of the city on a Sunday night.
"We've got to make sure we put on quality acts but I'm sure people will appreciate it." Anyone interested in playing the sessions can contact Andy Hiseman on 07812 014580.
