MOVING into her new flat has taken one Herefordshire woman back half a century. When Kalyani Menon moved into her retirement apartment in Watkins Court, Old Mill Close, last year she was instantly reminded of her days at university in London.
"Exploring Watkins Court with the other 'freshers' took me back to my university days," she says. "Although the laundry and amenities then were very primitive in comparison."
Life in the new McCarthy & Stone development of private retirement apartments has made a big difference to Miss Menon, who moved from London to Hereford to be nearer her brother.
"The security here is a big advantage and very reassuring. Last year started badly for me with a nasty burglary over Christmas and I feel much safer at Watkins Court," she says.
"I also love being so close to town as I can't walk very far. The convenience of that takes me back too, to my time at Bedford College when I lived in the middle of Regents Park and could walk to Oxford Street."
