Music chosen for Roy Massey's recital showed the expertise of this master technician and superlative artist very clearly, as he gave full vent to the restored Priory organ.
As an opener, Boyce's Symphony in F was crisp, as nimble fingers expounded the Allegro and time was marked firmly in the Gavot.
Sonata No 4 in B flat by Mendelssohn was accomplished magnificently. The first Allegro swelled into being with fulsome chords, contrasting perfectly with the gentle, elegantly phrased Andante.
Vivid, dotted phrases of pedaling supported Allegro maestoso as Roy dazzled with majestic chords to bring this fine delivery to its close.
For Bossi's Divertimento in forma di Giga, delicate flourishes of flute combinations in duet were beautiful. Villanella by Ireland was a charming 'salon'-styled piece and Francis Jackson's Impromptu embraced interesting mixes of stops combined with agile changes of manuals and virtuoso pedaling.
Bach's Prelude and Fugue in G was effected first with brilliance and precision, then each subject entry in the fugue was announced with clarity until Roy roared into the Coda with an impressive bravura display.
A thundering finale was reached in C S Lang's Introduction and Passaca-glia, to conclude a distinguished, exciting recital.
