church will play host to a play for Christmas, performed by members of churches.
The play, Scrub that Manger, tells the traditional nativity story in a new way, emphasising the humble beginnings of the infant Jesus with an emphasis on humour.
"While the story remains the same, it's always good to have a new way of presenting it," said Jonathan Rendall, Schools Adviser for the Diocese.
"The play is richly spiced with carols, humour, mystery, slapstick and a magical glimpse of the first Christmas.
"It will be good for children to have this entertaining reminder of the real meaning of Christmas."
Scrub That Manger is written by Neil Pugmire, who has been writing church drama for nearly 20 years.
Performances will start at 6.30pm at the following primary schools: Holmer (December 8); Trinity (December 9); Hunderton (December 12); St Thomas Cantilupe (December 13); Malbrook (December 14); Hampton Dene (December 15); St James' (December 22) and the Christian Life Centre on Edgar Street on December 17.
Tickets are available from each venue on the door or in advance on 01432 271071.
