RANI Moorthy's one-woman show tells the story of Ranjana, fated from the moment of her birth by an unlucky horoscope.

And the performance begins with the question: "Have you ever seen a more unlucky horoscope?" immediately drawing the audience into her world, the world of a girl born in Sri Lanka and raised in Malaysia but with many aspects of her life familiar to a British audience.

Rani Moorthy is a remarkable actress - one moment flicking out brilliant one-liners about family relationships as only an Asian comic can do, the next a pompous father-figure with a big black moustache, the next a troubled teenager caught in the space between tradition, family expectations and the modern world in which she finds herself.

She has been touring with this show since the 90s and makes it look easy, yet to sustain this 90-minute life-story, which includes conversations with herself on video, requires great technical skill, massive amounts of emotional energy, and great timing. Review by STEVE EVANS
