TAKING the fight to established sporting luxury saloons, Audi has pulled the wraps off its new S8 Quattro at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Under the long bonnet is a 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine using Audis FSI technology, based on the 5.0-litre V10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo supercar. With a power output of 444bhp and 398lb/ft of torque, the S8 can power from 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.
Keeping all that on the road is the Quattro four-wheel drive system, plus a modified air suspension system for improved cornering and grip, thanks to a 20mm lower ride height. UK deliveries will begin in 2006, with prices expected to be in excess of £65,000.
