Tucked away in the heart of Clent, The Mount Hotel is one of the area's best-kept secrets. But all that may be about to change, as new owner Edward Gibbs aims to put the venue firmly on the map.

The Victorian-era country house, a former girls' boarding school, has already undergone a programme of sympathetic refurbishment since the change of ownership nine months ago, with more planned for the near future. The hotel's ability to host weddings, parties and conferences will be brought to the fore, with the emphasis clearly on customer needs.

"At some larger hotels, customers are not treated like individuals - for instance, they might be offered a choice of two wedding 'packages' rather than having a say in every aspect of the big day," Edward points out. The Mount, however, will ensure that its relatively small size translates into a more intimate, friendly and flexible atmosphere, giving couples exactly what they require.

Some of the best features of The Mount are the wonderful views across the Clent hills and the tranquillity of the location, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a picturesque wedding or an undisturbed business meeting. The hotel can host 120 people for a sit-down meal and 180 for a buffet, with menus tailored to suit individual budgets.

The fully licensed bar has already attracted a number of regular patrons who appreciate the friendly ambience, while the a la carte restaurant - open every evening except Sunday, as well as for lunch and afternoon cream teas - is also a place to enjoy good company.

The 15 bedrooms, four of which are four-poster-bed suites, have been refurbished to include modern conveniences such as DVD players and Internet access, whilst retaining their traditional feel and a high level of comfort. The Mount offers convenience in other areas too, with plenty of car parking space and excellent transport links.

"The most important thing is to cater for the individual," Edward concludes. "We do offer a much more personal service, and it's paying off - we have had 12 weddings this year, and there are 15 already booked for 2006."
