A KIDDERMINSTER DJ is hoping to turn his hobby into a career after winning a radio competition.

Steve Guest, of Leonard Avenue, first started DJ-ing in his spare time 10 years ago after being inspired by a friend.

Last month, he entered a competition called Rising Stars with the dance and R'n'B radio station, Galaxy FM, which covers Birmingham, Nottingham and Manchester.

The competition was for bedroom DJs who are hoping to make a successful career out of their hobby.

He was chosen as the winner for October after he sent in a tape and his mix was played over the Galaxy network on Saturday, October 29.

Mr Guest, who prefers trance music, said it was the first competition he had entered, adding: "I think a lot of people would have sent in demos. The DJ picked three of the best demos and then a got a club promoter to choose the best and he chose mine."

He explained he was surprised when he found out he had won, adding: "I hope it will lead to bigger things. A lot of people will have heard it. It was brilliant. It was a bit strange hearing myself on the radio."

The forklift truck driver used to DJ in a club called The Lounge in Burton-on-Trent and worked there once a week.

He would like to find a venue in the Wyre Forest where he could DJ but would eventually like to spin the discs in clubs abroad.

The 27-year-old said he would like to DJ full-time, as he liked the sound of the DJ lifestyle, adding: "When I DJ, I enjoy the crowd reaction the most. I want to be travelling around the world DJ-ing."

He added he would like to perform in Ibiza during the summer as he said that was where the best clubs, such as Cream and Amnesia, were based.
